Stephen Pomeroy claims to have created ‘UK’s largest public consultation and stakeholder communications agency’

The PR and public affairs agency Remarkable Group has acquired London-based firm HardHat in a move aimed at creating a major new force in property PR and lobbying.

Remarkable will merge HardHat with its existing public consultation and stakeholder division to create a 30-strong office in the capital.

The group lead by chief executive Stephen Pomeroy also has offices across the UK in Manchester, Cardiff, Leeds, Bristol, Norwich and Winchester. The acquisition appears to be an attempt by Remarkable to strengthen its London presence, where land values - and agency fees - are at their highest

HardHat, set up in 2006 by former Labour councillor Andrew Howard, claims to be “the leading specialist communications consultancy for the property, development, energy and infrastructure sectors”.

In a statement announcing the acquisition, Remarkable Group claimed that it would “create the UK’s largest public consultation and stakeholder communications agency”.

Pomeroy also said the deal would set a new benchmark for property communications.

"This deal delivers on a long held ambition to set a new standard for the public consultation and stakeholder communications industry in the UK," he said.

"Andrew Howard, has built up a company with a powerful reputation across the property, development, energy and infrastructure sectors and a senior team with extensive experience of major projects in London and elsewhere in the UK.

"By combining this with Remarkable’s innovative approach to digital and creative stakeholder campaigns, its UK network, and growing strength in the energy and infrastructure markets we have an agency to offer clients something truly special."

Howard said: "We are delighted to be joining forces with the Remarkable Group.  Remarkable’s reputation is long established as an innovative, creative and strategically focused company that focuses on delivering commercial results for its clients."

The purchase of HardHat is the second acquisition by Remarkable Group in as many years. The first was in 2014 with the purchase of infrastructure and energy stakeholder consultation business, Pendragon Public Relations.

It means that Remarkable Group’s full team across its UK-wide office network will see its number grow to over 90.
