MHP triumphs in Nationwide pitch – and waves goodbye to TSB
The agency will take over from Teneo Blue Rubicon on the six-figure account.
Nationwide Building Society has handed its retained public affairs and corporate PR account to MHP Communications after a six-way pitch battle.
Nationwide kicked off the pitch process in the summer, with PAN revealing that the building society wanted an agency with solid campaigning credentials and the capacity to be creative. “We are looking for an agency to work seamlessly with our in house team across the communications piece (including public affairs), providing counsel, creativity, insight and tactical support,” said external affairs director Tanya Joseph.
Now Nationwide has selected MHP for the account which is said to be worth a significant six-figure sum. As a consequence of the win, MHP is calling an end to its relationship with TSB Bank after less than a year.
MHP picked up the TSB account in early 2018 after a competitive pitch led by joint head of public affairs Jamie Lyons who used to advise TSB when he was at Bell Pottinger. It is expected that TSB head of public affairs Liz Lynch will run a pitch process later this year to find a replacement.
MHP will take over from Teneo Blue Rubicon on the Nationwide account, with sources suggesting that TBR resigned the brief due to client conflict concerns around its work for RBS.
