The Champollion name is set to disappear as Simon Buckby sells his agency.

Instinctif Partners has acquired the public affairs firm Champollion in a bid to boost its UK public policy offering.

The acquisition comes 12 years after former BBC and Financial Times journalist Simon Buckby set up Champollion. Buckby is also a former campaign director at the now-defunct pro-European group Britain in Europe.

Following the deal, the Champollion name will be discarded as the whole team moves into Instinctif’s Gresham Street offices in the City of London. The Champollion team will be integrated into the firm’s public policy practice, headed by senior managing partner Warwick Smith. Buckby and his number two Estelle McCartney will joining as managing partners under Smith’s leadership.

Instinctif rebranded from College Group in 2104 with CEO Richard Nichols saying his goal was to build "the McKinsey of communications."

Commenting on the acquisition of Champollion, Nichols said: “We’ve been aware of Champollion’s fantastic reputation and first-class client work for many years so we are really pleased to be welcoming the team to Instinctif Partners. The expertise that Champollion brings complements our already strong public policy offering and bridges into our corporate practice with complementary skills, driving our interconnected proposition."

He also claimed: "Along with the organic growth we have consistently seen at Instinctif for the past decade, this is another step on our journey to becoming a world-leading international business communications consultancy.”

Smith said: “They have a fantastic reputation and a track record of delivering exceptional client work and we are looking forward to having them as part of the team. They will broaden our public policy offering, helping us to continue to deliver outstanding outcomes for our growing client base.”

Buckby said: “We have worked together in the past and are certain that the fit will bring new and exciting business opportunities for us all. Instinctif is rapidly expanding its reputation and market reach and we are relishing the chance to join the journey to becoming a world-leading international business communications consultancy.”
