The experienced agency lobbyist is taking her first big in-house job.

FTI Consulting public affairs boss Fiona Holroyde is leaving the consultancy to become global public affairs director at Bupa, PAN has learned.

Holroyde joined FTI in 2016 as UK managing director, working alongside head of public affairs Alex Deane. She is a former Bell Pottinger director who went on the be managing director of FD Public Affairs in 2005 and then managing director for public affairs at MHP Communications in 2009.

Bupa has previously used Portland for public affairs support but does not currently engage an agency, according to the government’s lobbying register. It previously employed Rupert Growley as group public affairs director but he moved on from the role in January and is now the firm’s strategy and M&A director.

“When the opportunity arose at Bupa it was hard to turn down,” said Holroyde in a statement confirming the move. “Bupa is a unique business with an inspiring purpose and I look forward to helping further strengthen Bupa’s reputation with political stakeholders.”

FTI Consulting last year made various hires in its public affairs team, including former Labour MP Gemma Doyle.  Deane suggested that FTI would eventually bring in a replacement for Holroyde.

He said: “I have valued Fiona’s collegiality and friendship and I have learned a great deal from her. Fiona will be greatly missed, but I am delighted for her too. It’s a super role and a great team she’s joining. Our public affairs offer remains very strong and in the fullness of time our ever-expanding team will have news to announce, too.”
